Despite their proximity and commercial ties that date back centuries, trade and investment between Southeast Asia and South Asia remain way below their potential. By working together, regional institutions such as ASEAN and BIMSTEC could build on their strengths and overcome individual weaknesses to reach this potential.
By working together, regional institutions such as ASEAN and BIMSTEC could build on their strengths and overcome individual weaknesses to reach this potential. Greater cooperation could also produce institutional mechanisms that curtail the delays and difficulties in decision-making which result from divergent national interests.
