IRSEA Welcomes Prof. Universitar Dr. Adrian Severin as its Honorary Member

The Romanian Institute for Europe-Asia Studies welcomes Prof. Universitar Dr. Adrian Severin as our newest Honorary Member. Committed to a more robust interaction between Europe and Asia, IRSEA is honoured to work together with Distinguished Statesmen, Diplomats and Academics in the spirit of Mutual Respect, Understanding and Dialogue.

One of Romania's most distinguished academic voices, Prof. Universitar Dr. Severin's expertise ranges from International Trade Law, Compared Civil and Trade Law, Public International Law to EU Law. He has been teaching at the Ştefan Gheorghiu Academy for Socio-Political Education, University of Bucharest, and Titu Maiorescu University of Bucharest and is one of the founders of the National School of Political and Administrative Studies. He published thousands of articles in academic journals and magazines and authored several monographs on topics ranging from Political Science, Geopolitics and Law.

A dedicated statesman, Prof. Universitar Dr. Severin has been Romania's Deputy Prime-Minister and Minister of Reform between 1990-1991, President of the National Agency for Privatisation and Development of the Small and Medium Enterprises between 1991-1992 and Deputy Prime-Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs between 1996 and 1997.

Between 1990 and 2007, Prof. Universitar Dr. Severin was a Member of the Romanian Parliament and, between 2007 and 2014, he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament. As a Member of the European Parliament, he was the Deputy President for Foreign Policy, Security and Defense of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (2009-2011), the President of the Delegation of the European Parliament to Ukraine (2007-2009) and Special Rapporteur of the European Parliament for the Russian Federation (2009-2011).

He was also the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly between 2000 and 2004, and a Special Rapporteur of UN for Human Rights in Belarus, between 2004 and 2006.

Throughout his activity as a statesman and academic, Prof. Universitar Dr. Severin has built cultural, economic and political bridges between Europe and Asia, in the same spirit so strongly advocated by IRSEA. On the occasion of joining the Institute, Prof. Universitar Dr. Severin manifested his will to support and further strengthen the excellent relations between Europe and Asia.

Ambassador (p) Gheorghe Savuica, commended Prof. Universitar Dr. Adrian Severin’s outstanding career and continuous, active and analytical interest towards international cooperation and research, adding that the Institute has gained immensely from the distinguished experience and expertise of IRSEA’s newest Honorary Member.
