The Romanian Institute for Europe-Asia Studies (IRSEA) welcomes H.E. Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Director General of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), as our newest Honorary Member. Having partnered back in 2008 and renewed their cooperation in 2021, IRSEA and ISSI represent a vivid illustration of Europe-Asia think-tank cooperation. Committed to a more robust interaction between Europe and Asia, IRSEA is honoured to work together with Distinguished Statesmen, Diplomats and Academics in the spirit of Mutual Respect, Understanding and Dialogue.

H.E. Ambassador Chaudhry is one of the most emblematic figures of the Pakistani DIplomacy. He has served as a member of the Foreign Service of Pakistan for 37 years. He has been the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan for over three years, and participated actively in high level foreign policy discussions from December 2013 to March 2017.

Ambassador Chaudhry’s last diplomatic assignment was as Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States of America, where he actively engaged the US legislators at Capitol Hill, lectured extensively at leading US universities and think tanks, and reached out to Pakistani Diaspora all across the country to strengthen relations between Pakistan and the US.

His Excellency has also served as Ambassador of Pakistan to the Netherlands, where he authored the monograph “Pakistan Mirrored to Dutch Eyes”, published by Sangemeel publications.

As the Foreign Office Spokesman, he interacted with Pakistani and international media.

Director General Chaudhry has extensive multilateral experience: he served as Additional Foreign Secretary for UN and Disarmament Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations in New York, as well as Chef de Cabinet to the Secretary General of ECO in Tehran. As a former Director General for relations with South Asian countries, Ambassador Chaudhry remained closely associated with the peace process with India. His other overseas assignments include stints in Pakistan Embassies in Washington, Doha and Cairo.

His Excellency holds a Masters degree in International Relations from Tufts University, Massachusetts, and a First Class First Bachelor of Science from Punjab University, Lahore.

At the beginning of the Awarding Ceremony, H.E. Ambassador (p) Gheorghe Savuica, President and Founder of IRSEA, showcased the particularly closed connection he felt in relation to Ambassador Chaudhry in the light of the two leaders' previous cooperation and commended the Director General of ISSI for the outstanding results registered by the institution under his leadership. The President of the Romanian think-tank added that the gracious presence of H.E. Ambassador Chaudhry as the Honorary Member of IRSEA represents a tremendously added-value for the institution and its international prestige. At the same time, Ambassador Savuica manifested his wish to further strengthen the excellent relations between the two institutions by continuing to work together and intensifying the joint participation in projects.

Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry accepted the IRSEA Honorary Award and stressed his full institutional availability to further continue and deepen the dialogue between the two institutions, expressing his openness to new ideas of cooperation, while also reviewing the main activities developed by the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad.

The two leaders also had an insightful and sincere exchange of views on topics of common interest with regard to the latest developments in Europe and Indo-Pacific regions.
