On May 2019, IRSEA’s President and founder, H.E. Ambassador (p) Gheorghe Săvuică, participated on behalf of the institute at the annual meeting of the European Association for Asian Studies (EIAS).

The annual meeting of 2019 was held in Krakow and hosted by Institute of the Middle and Far East (IBiDW UJ) of the Jagiellonian University. IRSEA’s President offered an extensive presentation over the institute’s activities in generating a more robust interaction between Europe and Asia, while stressing the integration in the framework of EAAS with suggestive examples.

The meeting also provided an ideal venue for short paper presentations, offering all the participants an impressive sample on the development of European scholarship on Asia.

The European Alliance for Asian Studies is a co-operative platform of European institutions specializing in the study of Asia. Established in 1997, it reunites multiple European competences and expertise on Asia and Asian Studies, facilitating a multi-level communication channel between its members and raising awareness on the importance of Asian area studies in the 21st century.

IRSEA has been a full member of EAAS since 2009, as the first Central and Eastern European research institute to join the prestigious European scholarly network.
