On the occasion of the official visit to Romania of H.E. Makhdoom Qureshi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, H.E. Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Romania, offered at his residence a dinner-reception on January 9, 2022.

The Romanian Institute for Europe-Asia Studies (IRSEA) has been represented through the invitation extended to his President & Founder, H. E. Ambassador (p) Gheorghe Savuica.

Following H.E. Ambassador Iqbal’s introduction of each of the Distinguished Guests, H.E. Foreign Minister Qureshi showcased in a short speech the importance attached to his visit to Romania, particularly provided that Minister Qureshi is the first head of the Diplomacy of Pakistan to visit Romania in the last two decades, which he described as important country in Eastern Europe and EU Member with which Pakistan enjoys a political free of problems bilateral relation, with an economic dimension in full progress. He further stressed that, though the bilateral trade in 2021 witnessed a substantial increase, its real potential has not yet been reached.

In his short welcoming speech, H.E. Ambassador Dr. Iqbal conveyed the desire of H.E. Foreign Minister Qureshi to enter into individual discussion with each guest, wishing to learn more about Pakistan and Pakistan-Romania ties.

H.E. Ambassador (p) Gheorghe Savuica evoked his mission in Pakistan as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (1996-2000), as well as the multiple working connections with prestigious think-tanks in this South Asian country. The most recent MoUs (2021) have been signed, with the kind assistance of H.E. Ambassador Dr. Iqbal, with the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad and the Center for Global and Strategic Studies Islamabad.

H.E. Ambassador (p) Savuica wished H.E. Foreign Minister Qureshi great success in the official talks with his Romanian counterpart, H.E. Foreign Minister Aurescu, expressing his belief the two High Dignitiaries will find together new avenues of enhancing the excellent relations so happily existing between Romania and Pakistan.
