Japan’s economic security strategy looks beyond the United States

As Trump-induced global economic uncertainty and economic protectionism rock the established international order, Japan is redefining its economic security strategy by looking to like-minded countries beyond the United States. While cautiously upholding the US alliance, Tokyo is expanding partnerships in the Asia Pacific and Europe, investing in supply chain resilience and strengthening defence ties with middle powers. These efforts mark a practical response to US instability, aiming to balance traditional relationships with a forward-looking approach.
