On October 26th, 2022, as result of the excellent cooperation between The Romanian Institute for Europe-Asia Studies (IRSEA) and the Faculty of International Business and Economics (REI), Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE), H.E. Ambassador (p) Gheorghe Savuica continued IRSEA’s “Diplomatic Training Programme”, initiated in 2009. This semester, the programme comprised of an interactive course on “Norms of Diplomatic Practice” taught to the postgraduate students of ASE pursuing a master degree in “Economic Diplomacy”.
The course has been organised with the precious support of Prof. Anca Ilie, PhD, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of International Business and Economics (REI) of ASE. One of the most prolific academic figures in Romania, Prof. Dr. Anca Ilie’s commitment and dedication to promoting the excellent Europe-Asia relations have gone a long way into raising awareness on Asia’s role in the global community as well as in consolidating Europe’s image as a time-tested partner of Asia.
The course provided the postgraduate students with norms and instruments to employ in their future diplomatic work, be it in public diplomacy, economic diplomacy or at corporate level. At the end of the lecture, the trainees addressed questions to the course instructor and expressed their willingness to contribute to the ever strengthening ties between Europe and Asia.
To respond this need, “IRSEA’s Diplomatic Training Programme” aims to equip each of the course participants with the set of skills required for not only for public diplomacy, but similarly as transprofessional ability in today and tomorrow’s world, ultimately an instrument of confidence on which to build a successful international career.
H.E. Ambassador (p) Gheorghe Savuica, IRSEA’s Founding President, is one of Romania's longest serving career diplomats, former Head of Mission, with Cabinet Letter, to Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Cyprus, Finland/ Estonia, The Philippines, Ambassador to Pakistan and Indonesia, and former Director-General of the Asia-Pacific, Near and Middle East, Africa and Latin America Department of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
IRSEA is looking forward to expand its “Diplomatic Training Programme” to other think-tanks or institutions of higher learning in Romania, Europe and Asia.
