Following a courtesy call on His Excellency Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Romania, Ambassador (p) Gheorghe Savuica*, President and Founder of the Romanian Institute for Europe-Asia Studies (IRSEA), discussed enhancing the bilateral collaboration between the higher education institutions and think tanks of both sides.
Ambassador Dr. Zafar Iqbal was presented with a Certificate of Excellence, in recognition of his valuable contributions to the academic achievements and economic diplomacy development. Ambassador Iqbal manifested his full support for the academic cooperation between the Pakistani and Romanian think-tanks, showcasing his particular admiration for the initiatives carried by IRSEA in raising awareness and further enhancing the robust cooperation between Europe and Asia.
Ambassador (p) Savuica similarly showed his appreciation for the academic and think-tank cooperation between Romania and Pakistan and reiterated his willingness to further strengthen the excellent cooperation by conducting joint research activities with think-tanks from Pakistan. His Excellency also recalled his great memories of Pakistan, as a former Romanian Ambassador to Islamabad.

* One of Romania's longest serving career diplomats, former Head of the Mission, in his capacity as Charge d’Affaires a.i., with Cabinet Letter, to Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, the Philippines later as Ambassador to Pakistan and Indonesia , and former Director-General of the Asia-Pacific, Near and Middle East, Africa and Latin America Department of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador (p) Gheorghe Savuica authored multiple edited volumes and op-eds. Following his relentless activity in the Romanian Academia, Ambassador (p) Savuica was awarded the “Grigore Gafencu” Prize by the Academy of Romanian Scientists.
