Strengthening ASEAN Unity and Resilience amid Global Uncertainties - one of the main goals of the Association in 2025

As it is known, the Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025 belongs to Malaysia. As a result, the first significant event of the Association this year took place on the island Langkawi on the 19th of January, 2025, namely the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ (AMM) Retreat.

Usually, on this occasion, the Foreign Ministers are discussing and planning the whole agenda of ASEAN during the current year.

This time, the meeting got an additional regional and international attention as it was held one day before the inauguration of the new President of the United States of America.

The Press Statement issued by the Chair of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat represents an important document where one could find the official position of the Southeast Asian countries on Association’s own challenges and targets, the relationship with its foreign partners as well as their attitude on the global uncertainties, rivalries, and dangerous conflicts.

The main conclusion out of it is the consistency and firmness of their balanced stand presented in its specific “ASEAN Way “on the whole spectrum mentioned above. It will become clearer by adopting the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 by the coming 46th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur.
