IRSEA Welcomes Mr. Sunjoy Joshi, Chairman of the Observer Research Foundation, India, as its Honorary Member

The Romanian Institute for Europe-Asia Studies (IRSEA) welcomes Mr. Sunjoy Joshi, Chairman of the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), India, as our newest Honorary Member. Having partnered in 2022, IRSEA and ORF represent a vivid and successful illustration of Europe-Asia think-tank cooperation.

Committed to a more robust interaction between Europe and Asia, IRSEA is honoured to work together with Distinguished Statesmen, Diplomats and Academics in the spirit of Mutual Respect, Understanding and Dialogue.

Mr. Sunjoy Joshi has been heading the Observer Research Foundation, New Delhi, first as Director since 2009 and subsequently as Chairman of the Board since 2009.

He began his career with the Government of India as a member of the Indian Administrative Service in 1983, serving in various capacities for 25 years when he left to join the ORF to pursue his primary interests in energy and environment. His last posting with the Government of India was as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. He served as Director of the Board of National Energy Companies such as ONGC, OVL, OIL and MRPL and was responsible for administering fiscal and contractual regimes for oil and gas. His experience of policy making and implementation cuts across the conventional as well as non-conventional energy sectors and covers issues related to water use, and its conservation and management. He has been Visiting Associate at the International Institute of Strategic Studies, London and Distinguished Visitor to the Program on Energy and Sustainable Development, University of Stanford. Takes keen interest in social development serving on the Board of the Mountain Children’s Foundation, a not for profit group working with rural children in the Himalayas. He has been Visiting Associate at the International Institute of Strategic Studies, London and Distinguished Visitor to the Program on Energy and Sustainable Development, University of Stanford.

Chairman, Mr Sunjoy Joshi accepted the IRSEA Honorary Award thanking Ambassador Savuica for the honour and was very optimistic about a fruitful, continuous and deepening dialogue with IRSEA. He was happy to recall such iconic examples of Indian-Romanian cooperation as the Guwahati Refinery from which laid the foundation for India to eventually become a major refining hub supplying the world's needs for petroleum products.

He feels that in the 21tst Century India and Romania, home to a host of start-ups now share a common potential to become “world-class technological hubs” that will serve to power the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

In the spirit strongly advocated by IRSEA Chairman Sunjoy Joshi too has been instrumental in building several collaborative exchanges between Europe and Asia which today serve as bridges between these rich and culturally diverse continents. In the light of his high dedication, outstanding expertise and fruitful experience as well as the continuous, active and stimulating interest toward international cooperation and facilitation, IRSEA is proud to welcome Chairman Sunjoy Joshi as Honorary Member of the Romanian Institute for Europe-Asia Studies.
