There is a general consensus among observers of Indonesian politics that Prabowo Subianto will be a hands-on president who plays an active role in shaping and implementing foreign policy during his tenure. Under Prabowo, we can also expect a more robust iteration of Indonesia’s independent and active (bebas dan aktif ) foreign policy and nonaligned stance in responding to regional and international dynamics.
Unlike President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), who was a small-scale furniture businessman from Central Java with limited international exposure prior to entering national politics, Prabowo has a much more cosmopolitan background.
