On August 17, 2018, IRSEA's President H.E. Ambassador Gheorghe Săvuică, participated, as a Guest of Honour, at the celebration of the hoisting of the national flag, on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of Indonesia's Independence. The ceremony is held every year at the Indonesian Embassy in Bucharest to mark the Independence Day, with the participation of prominent members of the Indonesian community in Romania.
It is a moment of particular significance, animated by strong patriotic feelings – a marking feature of Indonesia, as well as of the other ASEAN members.
In addition to the guard of honour presenting the honors to the Indonesian Ambassador, master of ceremony, and the hoisting of the Indonesian flag while performing the national anthem, the Declaration of Independence was read solemnly. At the end, a representative of the Embassy recited prayers, customary to all Islamic ceremonies, as Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world.
Ambassador Săvuică, President of IRSEA, has attended the ceremony as a Guest of Honour, given his special connection to Indonesia, in various diplomatic positions, including that of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Indonesia , as well as due to his vast expertise as a specialist on South East Asia and excellent speaker of Indonesian language.
